Are hereditary or congenital conditions covered?
Yes, provided the condition has not manifested itself prior to taking out insurance.

At what age can I enroll my pet?
You may start your pet's insurance anytime after 8 weeks of age. We will insure dogs up to 8 years of age,  or 10 years for your cat.

What is co-insurance?
Co-Insurance is the percentage of treatment costs that you are responsible for before the deductible is applied. We pay 80% of the cost of veterinary fees for accident and illness. Co-insurance does not apply to the Compact Plan.

What is the deductible?
There is an annual deductible of $100 for the Intermediate and Luxury Plans, and $50 for the Compact Plan.

Will you discontinue coverage when my pet gets older?
BCAA Pet Insurance will provide lifelong coverage as long as your premiums are up to date. Understandably, health care costs increase as your pet ages; to account for this, a supplement to your annual deductible will apply to cats at the age of 10 and for dogs at the age of 6. Although your deductible will increase as your pet ages, your monthly premium will not increase due to the age of your pet.

What is the difference between an Accident and an Injury?
An injury is physical harm or damage that occurs as part of normal activity. An accident is an unexpected incident or event causing injury.

Do I get a discount for two pets?
You will get a 10% discount for 3 or more pets. If you insure 6 or more pets, you receive a 15% discount.

My pet is currently being treated for a medical condition. Will you cover this pre-existing condition if I take out insurance now?
Pre-existing or foreseeable conditions or conditions developing within the waiting period are excluded from coverage.

Will you insure my 15 year old dog/cat?

What is a bilateral condition?
A bilateral condition is a condition which may affect both sides of the body (example: cruciate ligament rupture or hip dysplasia.)

Will you pay my veterinarian instead of me?
Sometimes under specific conditions such as treatments and/or surgeries where the fees will be extremely large, we can pay the clinic directly if this arrangement is okay with the practice. A pre-authorization form must be completed by the policyholder and the practice and approved by us.

Do I get a little health benefits card to show my vet?
A health card is not needed for your pet when you take it to the vet. You are reimbursed for the treatment your pet receives and claim forms are available at your veterinarian or online here.

Our average turnaround time for claims is 5 business days, so you should normally receive your claim cheque within 10 business days of when we receive your complete claim.
